Manchester City set for showdown future talks with teenage midfield star

Mahamadou Susoho is set for crunch talks with Etihad officials surrounding plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

The 19-year-old, who is currently part of Manchester City’s pre-season tour squad of the United States, featured during Tuesday’s penalty shoot-out defeat to FC Barcelona at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Susoho is part of a contingent from the City Football Academy to have been selected by Pep Guardiola for the four-match tour, with Manchester City having failed to win any of their first three friendly matches.

Manchester City suffered a 4-1 penalty shoot-out loss to Barcelona in midweek, and have also suffered defeats to both AC Milan and Celtic during the US tour to date.

The Sky Blues drew 2-2 with Barcelona prior to the shoot-out, as goals from Nico O’Reilly and Jack Grealish cancelled out first-half goals from pair Pau Victor and Pablo Torre.

Susoho featured from the bench during the friendly fixture, with the teenager having also started Saturday’s loss to AC Milan in New York, and played against Scottish giants Celtic in North Carolina.

The teenager was part of the Blues’ FIFA Club World Cup squad in Saudi Arabia last December, and featured in the UEFA Champions League for the Manchester City first-team last season.

Susoho made 17 appearances for the Blues’ Elite Development Squad last campaign, but could be set to get regular first-team opportunities away from the Etihad Stadium next season, according to journalist Jack Gaughan.

Discussions over Susoho’s next steps will take place upon returning to east Manchester, and Manchester City could reportedly look to let the 19-year-old go on loan for a year.

Susoho could also feature for Manchester City this weekend, when the Blues face Premier League rivals Chelsea in Ohio to conclude their four-match tour of the US ahead of the start of the new campaign next month.
