332-appearance Manchester City star breaks silence on future amid Saudi Arabia exit speculation
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has publicly discussed his future at the Etihad Stadium after intense transfer speculation.
The 30-year-old featured during Manchester City’s 2-3 loss to AC Milan at the Yankee Stadium in New York City on Saturday, as Pep Guardiola’s side suffered successive pre-season defeats as part of preparations for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.
Manchester City have a handful of first-team players available for the four-match tour, but are at risk of losing shot-stopper Ederson ahead of the start of the new season, amid continued interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The Brazilian has been at the Etihad Stadium since a £35 million move from Benfica in 2017, and has made over 330 appearances and won an array of silverware, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
Ederson missed the final two matches of the last campaign and the Copa America in the United States due to a facial fracture suffered against Tottenham, after the goalkeeper was involved in a nasty collision in north London.
The 30-year-old is wanted by Al-Ittihad, after a proposed deal to Al-Nassr collapsed due to Manchester City’s £50 million transfer valuation.
Ederson recently released a statement on social media regarding the ongoing transfer saga, and the Brazilian has now publicly discussed his future following the pre-season friendly loss to AC Milan.
“Hearing from Pep [that he wants him to stay] is gratifying. Eight seasons with him, many good moments, bad moments. Easy to work with, a football genius. Hearing it from him is nice,” said the goalkeeper.
“Whatever happens is in the hands of God, he knows the right path and I’ll be happy with what he gives me. I am happy at Manchester City, comfortable with my teammates. I am enjoying it, too. I’m recovering my physical condition, so I’m calm.”
Manchester City have already agreed new deals with goalkeeping pair Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson this summer, and could also offer fresh terms to Ederson, should the 30-year-old choose to remain in east Manchester.
