Premier League champions Manchester City are keeping in touch over the future of RB Leipzig and Spain international Dani Olmo this summer.

Etihad Stadium officials have been continuously linked to the services of the Spaniard throughout the course of the ongoing transfer window, with those reports heightened in light of the European Championships.

Dani Olmo finished as one of Spain’s most productive players at the tournament, driving his nation to glory and ultimately claiming the title over England in a showpiece Berlin final, having also recorded victories over Germany and France earlier in the competition.

Earlier this month, the 26-year-old had a relatively enticing €60 million release clause valid in his RB Leipzig agreement. However, with no club in Europe opting to trigger the clause at that valuation, negotiations for the player can now open.

For Manchester City, they continue to stand and watch the situation from afar, with the understanding being that the club are yet to submit any form of offer to Leipzig for their star man, or enter into conversations over a potential signing.

According to the information of Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, and despite our understanding, Manchester City are continuing to monitor the situation of Dani Olmo at RB Leipzig ‘closely’, and are keeping in touch over the midfielder.

Elsewhere, the report highlights that Barcelona are continuing to push for the player, whilst the feeling from within RB Leipzig is that the La Liga giants are leading the race at this stage, but the Catalan side will have to improve their offer.

Additionally, the 26-year-old reportedly remains on the transfer shortlist at Bayern Munich.

Should Manchester City rethink their strategy this summer and move back into the direction of Dani Olmo with an intent to sign the player, their history in negotiating with RB Leipzig could work in their favour.

The Premier League champions worked with Leipzig last summer on the signing of Josko Gvardiol from the Bundesliga club, in a deal understood to be worth around €90 million as a complete package for the defender.

Gvardiol has gone on to become a major success under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, and has now returned to the first-team squad this summer to get his preparations for the new season underway over in the United States.
