Sources: Manchester City yet to submit official offer for reported attacking midfield transfer target
Manchester City are yet to submit any offers for RB Leipzig and Spain international Dani Olmo, contrary to reports, City Xtra understand.
The 26-year-old is currently away on his summer break following an exemplary tournament with Spain at this summer’s European Championships, recording two goals and three assists en route to claiming the title with his international teammates.
Whilst Olmo was already of interest to a number of clubs prior to the tournament in Germany, his performances against some of the continent’s finest national teams emphasised a need for many clubs to try their luck at recruiting him from RB Leipzig.
However, interest in the player was not sufficient enough to see his €60 million release clause in Saxony triggered by any club, meaning interest in the midfielder will now have to be a negotiation with his current employers.
One report this week has already suggested that Manchester City had lodged a formal offer to RB Leipzig for Olmo, however clarification on the situation from the point of the Etihad Stadium club can now be confirmed via this website.
Despite reports in other quarters this week, City Xtra understands that Manchester City are yet to submit any official offers or proposals to RB Leipzig for the services of Spain international midfielder Dani Olmo this summer.
A report from FootMercato’s Santi Aouna on X claimed that Manchester City had made an offer to secure the player’s services, whilst La Liga side FC Barcelona are continuing in their own interest in the talent.
The Premier League champions do however remain in the market for a new central midfielder this summer, with an awareness among Etihad Stadium recruitment bosses that there is a need for sufficient and capable back-up to Rodrigo in defensive midfield.
With that being said, Manchester City’s primary transfer target in the centre of the pitch remains Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, amid a belief that the 26-year-old has the capabilities to operate deeper in a midfield trio as well as in the number eight role.
There is yet to be any concrete movement from the Etihad Stadium on Guimaraes however, with the club having already rejected the chance to sign the player via a release clause last month, understood to be worth £100 million.
