Jurgen Klopp has questioned whether former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha ever ‘played football’, as the Liverpool manager provided a bizarre response to a question during a recent interview.

Onuoha, who made 116 appearances for Manchester City, received a surprisingly rude reply from the Liverpool boss during an interview with ESPN.

The former defender featured for City over seven seasons, scoring five goals and making 91 starts for the Sky Blues.

Onuoha, who also played for Sunderland and QPR, played against Liverpool for City on six occasions during his time in East Manchester.

Despite these appearances, the current Liverpool manager appeared to be unaware of who Onuoha was, as he questioned whether the defender had ever “played football” during an interview following a 2-2 draw with Wolves in the FA Cup.

“I’m not sure if you’ve played football,” was Klopp’s bizarre reply to a Onuoha’s question surrounding the challenges currently faced by the Liverpool head coach.

ESPN were quick to point out that Onuoha had played 232 top flight games in his career, while the Liverpool boss hadn’t played any.

Onuoha had also played 426 games as opposed to Klopp’s 347.

“If he was in a good mood I probably would have said something back,” joked Onuoha with his ESPN colleagues after the incident.

Liverpool are currently 16 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and have experienced an underwhelming and lacklustre campaign.

The Merseyside club also face an FA Cup third round replay against Wolves next week, after drawing at Anfield earlier this month.
