Manchester City have ‘asked’ about the availability of Sevilla and Morocco star Yassine Bounou, according to reports from Spain.

The 31 year-old goalkeeper – more commonly known as ‘Bono’ – starred for Morocco at the most recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he started in six of his nation’s seven fixtures in a memorable tournament.

Keeping clean sheets against Croatia, Spain, and Portugal, the La Liga goalkeeper caught the eyes of many onlookers, as Morocco set a wide range of records when compared to African countries to have competed at the World Cup in previous tournaments.

One of the reported onlookers to have been left impressed enough to now consider a transfer for Yassine Bounou is Manchester City, who have been linked with making a proposal to his La Liga employers in recent days.

That is according to the information of El Chiringuito, who claim that reigning Premier League champions City ‘have asked’ about the availability of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou following his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup with Morocco.

News of City’s apparent interest in the shot-stopper came just hours after their 2-0 Carabao Cup exit to Southampton on Wednesday night – a performance that saw reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno fail to cover himself in glory.

The German summer recruit was caught off his line for Manchester City’s second conceded goal of the game, as Moussa Djenepo lobbed the former Arminia Bielefeld man from distance.

It must be said however that it is highly unlikely that City will have held any concerns around Ortega prior to Wednesday’s defeat, and they certainly will not have initiated contact with Sevilla in the immediate aftermath of the result – raising question marks over the legitimacy of the claim.
