Savinho reveals nine-word message to representative upon joining Manchester City as lifelong friend’s ‘dream’ come true
Manchester City’s newest recruit into Pep Guardiola’s squad had a nine-word message for his representatives upon making the switch to the Premier League champions.
Savinho has finally put pen to paper on a long-term agreement at the Etihad Stadium, with his five-year contract signed earlier this week keeping him at Manchester City until the summer of 2029, should all go smoothly.
The Brazilian has become Manchester City’s first signing of the ongoing summer transfer window, with eyes remaining on the market as the club go in search of fresh recruits in the central midfield roles.
But the move to Manchester was extra special for the 20-year-old Brazil international, who revealed during his opening words to the club’s official website that it was a dream come true shared by himself and a childhood friend.
In his first reaction to his Manchester City transfer, Savinho told ManCity.com of his first words to his representatives and stepfather that also indicated the firm belief that the decision to move to the Etihad Stadium was never in doubt.
“I’m very happy and proud of myself and of my family who are out there, for helping me get here. I have to thank God as well for giving me this opportunity to be at Manchester City. I’m very happy, still can’t believe I’m here, but with time, it will sink in,” the 20-year-old admitted.
He continued, “What I am experiencing here, I just arrived and I turned to my representative and my stepfather and said that it would be impossible to turn down Manchester City. And they were showing me what the training centre was like, what the club’s structure was like.”
Savinho continued by revealing the dream that has now come true, previously shared by himself and a close friend, over his pathway to Manchester City.
“I think that since I was little, since I was at Atletico Mineiro, I watched Manchester City games. I have a friend whose dream was for me to become a Manchester City player,” the former Troyes forward explained.
“We used to play video games together, and he always played as Manchester City. I played with other teams, and he said that his dream was for me to one day join Manchester City and that I had the potential to get there.”
Savinho will now head back to Brazil to continue his summer holidays, before returning to Manchester for the start of his pre-season training in early August and for a special unveiling event in front of City supporters.
It remains to be seen whether Savinho will play any part in Manchester City’s first competitive game of the season, as Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions take on the FA Cup winners from last season, Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
