Fabrizio Romano reveals new Manchester City plan for 103-appearance striker amid growing transfer interest

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez is set for crunch talks with Etihad officials following the conclusion of the Copa America in the United States.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a stunning £80 million exit from the Etihad Stadium this summer, despite making 54 appearances for Manchester City during the recent 2023/24 campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Alvarez, who won the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Manchester City last season, lifted more silverware with Argentina over the weekend, as Lionel Scaloni’s side won the Copa America with a 1-0 win over Columbia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

The Manchester City striker scored two goals in five appearances for Argentina at the tournament, and will also represent the nation at the upcoming Olympics in Paris, missing the opening weeks of the Premier League season as a result.

The forward moved to the Etihad Stadium from River Plate in 2022, and has already won six trophies and made over 100 appearances for the Sky Blues, as well as scoring 36 goals and registering 18 assists.

Alvarez could have played his final match for Manchester City however, with the Argentina international subject to continued transfer interest from both Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season.

Manchester City continue to ‘insist’ that the 24-year-old will remain at the Etihad Stadium this summer, although both parties are set to hold talks following the conclusion of the Copa America, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Etihad executives have refused to communicate a price tag to interested clubs, with the striker reportedly wanting to play more, despite featuring over 50 times for Guardiola last season.

Manchester City are also preparing for the potential departure of first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, as the 30-year-old continues to be the subject of a big-money move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr this summer.
