Borussia Dortmund opens talks with representatives of Manchester City defender over summer transfer
Manchester City could be subjected to transfer approaches from Borussia Dortmund this summer as the Bundesliga side make contact with representatives of one player.
It is turning out to be a summer of great incomes for the Premier League champions through a number of high-profile player sales, with over £40 million having already been generated through a mixture of sell-on clauses being activated and permanent deals agreed.
The latest completion has seen Sergio Gomez bring an end to his two-season stay at Manchester City by joining La Liga side Real Sociedad, who have sanctioned a €10 million transfer package plus a 30 per cent sell-on clause in favour of the Etihad club.
And yet more income could be on the way to Manchester this summer, with Yan Couto emerging as the latest player to attract widespread interest from across the European game, and particularly Germany, if the latest understanding is accurate.
Previous reports this summer had already indicated that Manchester City would be open to offers for the Brazil international, with those reporting closely around the club pointing towards a valuation of around £40 million.
Now, according to the information of Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, Couto is a player that prominent German side Borussia Dortmund are ‘looking for’ this summer, and a profile that is different to current option Julian Ryerson.
It is reported that not only can the 22-year-old imagine a transfer to Borussia Dortmund, but that there have also been talks with the player’s side over the possibility of a move to the Bundesliga club in the coming weeks.
But with regards to the transfer fee that could be allocated to Couto this summer, the report states that Dortmund want to spend between €20 million and €25 million.
Manchester City are seemingly content with their existing right-back options this summer, and are highly unlikely to search for a direct replacement for the Brazilian international should a sale come to fruition.
Kyle Walker retains confidence within Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City coaching staff, whilst there is also an openness to grant Rico Lewis further opportunities in significant matches, such is his flexibility to operate in multiple positions.
City fans will also note that the defensive unit has a number of players able to operate in multiple positions too, and as such Pep Guardiola could always call upon the likes of John Stones and Manuel Akanji for the right-back slot depending on availability elsewhere.
