Wolves midfielder emerges as fresh transfer target for Manchester City – Etihad bosses braced for disappointment
Manchester City have now been linked with a fresh midfield profile from within the Premier League, as their search for fresh recruits continues this summer.
The latest player to be tied to supposed interest from within the Etihad Stadium comes after a string of reports have linked the Premier League champions with interest in multiple profiles from across the European game.
Despite claims from elsewhere, the current understanding is that Dani Olmo is not one of the players being considered for a move by Manchester City, after his stellar performances at the ongoing European Championships have placed him on the radar of several clubs.
Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United, as well as Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, remain the most likely candidates to be intensified in terms of approaches in the coming weeks, as Manchester City focus their attentions on the new season and upcoming pre-season schedule.
In the meantime, Etihad recruitment bosses continue to be linked with other profiles from across the game, with the latest player emerging from the Premier League despite an strong stance taken that he is not for sale.
According to the information of HITC’s Graeme Bailey, Manchester City are among the clubs to have enquired about the possible availability and current status of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes this summer.
However, unfortunately for the likes of City when it comes to Gomes – who remains under contract until 2028, the player himself is said to be in no rush to pursue another fresh start having only made the switch to Molineux in January 2023.
As for the stance taken by Wolves, the Midlands club will not consider offers for the Brazilian international unless they are ‘simply too good to turn down’ and see a ‘massive return’ on their initial £15 million investment.
Since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Brazilian giants Flamengo last year, Gomes has recorded a total of 49 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
The rapid rise of the 23-year-old at the top of the European game has also seen him take strides within the senior Brazil national team, making his debut for the side in March 2024 in an international friendly victory over England at Wembley Stadium.
Wolves and Manchester City have already engaged in transfer activity this summer, with Tommy Doyle bringing an end to his association at the Etihad Stadium by switching to Molineux in a £5 million agreement.
