Manchester City make ‘forceful’ strides in pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo ‘in the last few hours’

| Last Updated:

Reports are continuing to link Manchester City with an interest in RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, with developments claimed to have taken place ‘in the last few hours’.

The 26-year-old is continuing to attract widespread attention from across the European game through his exceptional performances at the ongoing European Championships, scoring three goals and providing two assists in five appearances for Spain.

It is that output that has heavily contributed to Spain’s successful pursuit of a showpiece final in Berlin on Sunday night, where they will take on Gareth Southgate’s England at the Olympiastadion.

While Olmo’s focus will no doubt be on the pitch, club officials are seemingly working with intent to win over the player’s signature through conversations with those working on his behalf, looking to finalise a deal almost immediately after the final whistle this weekend.

One team to have been continuously linked with Dani Olmo is Manchester City, as Etihad Stadium bosses look to strengthen their midfield reserves amid ongoing uncertainty regarding the longevity of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva in Sky Blue.

Now, according to the information of Spanish newspaper AS, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, it is claimed that Manchester City have ‘emerged with force in the last few hours’ for Dani Olmo.

The report details that the current belief is that the Premier League champions could be ready to move for the versatile attacking midfielder, and that ‘Guardiola’s City could be his destiny’ upon the completion of his ongoing European Championships campaign with Spain.

Olmo has an active release clause in his current RB Leipzig contract, and the current line of reporting from those in England is that the £50 million sum will be triggered before its expected expiry next week.

Unsurprisingly, that same report pointed towards interest from Premier League clubs and Spanish teams, with Chelsea and Liverpool ruled out among those from the English top-flight, in an encouraging sign regarding Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will sanction any outgoing moves from their midfield ranks this summer, with both Kevin De Bruyne and Matheus Nunes understood to be attracting ongoing interest from Saudi Arabia.
