Manchester City exit to be confirmed in next 24 hours after medical completed on Wednesday
Premier League champions Manchester City will finalise an agreement to sell Academy graduate striker Liam Delap to Ipswich Town within the next 24 hours.
The England youth international has been heavily linked with a permanent move away from the Etihad Stadium for several weeks, having completed a third successive loan move into the Championship last season.
Following on from temporary agreements with Stoke City and Preston North End, the 2023/24 campaign saw Delap work under Liam Rosenior at Hull City, narrowly missing out on a play-off place in England’s second-tier.
However, with Delap’s pathway into Pep Guardiola’s plans continuing to be blocked by the presence of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, opportunities to play consistent Premier League football have appeared and become somewhat of a no-brainer for the player.
And now it seems as though a decision has been firmly made on where Liam Delap will play his football from next season, after reports revealed earlier this week that Manchester City had simultaneously accepted two offers from top-flight sides.
As per the information of Ipswich Town-focussed news outlet TWTD, Manchester City’s Liam Delap has now passed a medical at Portman Road and agreed terms ahead of his first permanent move in his senior professional career.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has also reported that the Premier League newcomers are set to confirm the signing of Manchester City’s Liam Delap in the next 24 hours, having had a bid accepted by the top-flight champions.
The understanding in various quarters is that Manchester City have come to an agreement over an initial £15 million transfer fee for the young striker, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons.
It is also widely understood that the Premier League champions have included a 20 per cent sell-on in the deal with Ipswich Town, whilst also integrating a buy-back clause into the agreement, thus remaining strongly engaged with the player’s future.
Manchester City will be reunited with Liam Delap sooner than some may have imagined, with Pep Guardiola and his players welcoming Ipswich Town to the Etihad Stadium in their second home game of the new Premier League season on Saturday 24 August.
