Manchester City eye significant sell-on clause in any transfer agreement for outgoing striker this summer
Officials at Manchester City are reportedly set to eye a significant sell-on clause percentage in any agreement reached for outgoing striker Liam Delap this summer.
The England youth international is currently in the process of weighing up various options ahead of the forthcoming 2024/25 campaign, with his pathway into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City plans remaining blocked as pre-season approaches.
The presence of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland as Manchester City’s leading striker options means that Delap is unlikely to be afforded enough opportunities to warrant an Etihad Stadium stay, and as such could look for his next permanent senior steps in the game.
A promising loan spell with Hull City last season, split by a mid-campaign injury, has attracted a long line of potential suitors vying for his signature this summer, including potential solutions in the Premier League and further afield.
But while Manchester City are no doubt open to permanent offers for the player, it is likely that they will ensure the future of the striker has a direct impact on their own finances as well, and as is often the case with Etihad Stadium player sales.
According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, officials from the Etihad Stadium have stipulated a 20 per cent sell-on clause for striker Liam Delap, who is attracting widespread interest this summer.
Ipswich Town have emerged as the latest side to show an interest in the Manchester City Academy graduate, as Kieran McKenna and Portman Road recruitment staff look to brace themselves for life in the top-flight.
A move to the Premier League newcomers could also see Delap reunited with two of his former Hull teammates, with both Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves strongly linked with permanent moves to Ipswich in a deal that is likely to well exceed £30 million.
Elsewhere and reports from Italy have also linked Delap with interest from Fiorentina and Bologna, with the latter scouring the striker market for potential replacements for Manchester United bound Joshua Zirkzee.
