Manchester City scouts present at major European Championship clash to watch 505-appearance midfielder
Manchester City officials were present at the recent UEFA European Championship quarter-final clash between Germany and Spain.
Pep Guardiola’s side begin preparations for their latest Premier League title defence later this month, and while the 53-year-old manager attended Wimbledon this weekend, Manchester City officials were reportedly present at the Euro’s in Germany.
The Sky Blues have been linked with a number of players who are involved at the tournament this summer, including Germany trio Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz forced Friday’s quarter-final clash with Spain into extra-time after a stunning 89th minute strike, however the host nation were dramatically dumped out of the competition as a result of Mikel Merino’s 119th minute header in Stuttgart.
Spain are set to face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday, meanwhile England advanced to the last-four with a penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland, and will face the Netherlands on Wednesday evening in Dortmund.
Manchester City officials were in attendance at the quarter-final clash between Spain and Germany on Friday evening, with scouts from both the Etihad Stadium and Camp Nou watching Bayern Munich’s Kimmich, according to outlet HITC.
The Sky Blues and Barcelona are amongst the clubs to be interested in signing the 29-year-old midfielder this summer, amid the potential for Kimmich to depart the Allianz Arena after failing to agree a new contract.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on the situation surrounding the German international, with Manchester City looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Kimmich, who has made over 500 career appearances, made 43 appearances and was directly involved in 12 goals for Bayern Munich during the recent season.
The 29-year-old is out of contract in Bavaria at the end of next season, and featured in all five matches for Germany at the European Championships.
Manchester City were linked with the midfielder in January, and despite the arrival of Vincent Kompany at the Allianz Arena to replace Thomas Tuchel, Kimmich could still depart Bayern Munich after almost a decade at the Bundelsiga club.
The Sky Blues have also been linked RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo, who scored for Spain during the crunch last-eight clash against Germany on Friday.
