Ederson ‘interested’ in Manchester City exit to Saudi Arabia following blockbuster offer

| Last Updated:

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is reportedly ‘interested’ in an offer proposed to him by one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent clubs.

The 30-year-old has been a mainstay in the Manchester City squad since his arrival at the club in the summer market of 2017, sparking a major change in the goalkeeping styles witnessed in English football.

With an exceptional ability to play the ball out with his feet, complimented by top-level traditional shot-stopping standards, Ederson is widely regarded as being one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the sport.

However, after seven years of service to Manchester City glittered with silverware, the Brazil international could seek a new challenge away from the Etihad Stadium amid growing interest from Saudi Arabia.

The ever-ambitious bosses charged with developing the Saudi Pro League through recruitment of European stars have reportedly made a staggering financial proposal to Ederson this summer, and new details have provided insight into the feeling from the player’s side.

According to information provided by journalist Santi Aouna on X this week, Manchester City’s Ederson is ‘interested’ in joining the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte at Al-Nassr. However, importantly, there is no agreement yet.

It is claimed that with Al-Nassr wanting to recruit Ederson this summer, negotiations are ‘ongoing’ with an initial offer having already been made to the 30-year-old, as reported previously this week.

It remains unknown as to whether Manchester City would re-enter the transfer market for a new number one this summer, or whether staff working around Pep Guardiola would entrust Stefan Ortega with the new leading role in the position.

The German shot-stopper renewed his contract with the Premier League champions through until the summer of 2026 earlier this year, with the club keen to reward the player for the exceptional standards set when called upon last campaign.

With outings against the likes of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, as well as Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield, Ortega has certainly pushed Ederson all the way unlike back-ups of previous seasons.
