Pep Guardiola’s hopes of a reunion with Bayern Munich and Germany international Joshua Kimmich may have been boosted following a new report this week.

Despite entering into the third week of the active summer transfer window for English clubs, Manchester City are still yet to make any concrete progress on new midfield recruits for Pep Guardiola’s forthcoming season.

Concerns over the longevity of Kevin De Bruyne amid long-standing admiration from Saudi Arabia and the United States, as well as ongoing desires from Bernardo Silva to exit the club, has meant City are well underway with contingency plans.

That has led the Premier League champions to a number of top-level names from across Europe, particularly at Bayern Munich as Vincent Kompany’s roster of players boasts some of the finest operators in midfield roles.

For Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City boss knows one profile of player all too well, and the Catalan boss’ hopes of a reunion with Joshua Kimmich may now have been boosted, if the latest emerging information is to be believed.

According to a new report from The Sun, the chance to link up with former manager Pep Guardiola over at Manchester City is currently ‘swaying’ Joshua Kimmich towards an Etihad Stadium transfer this summer.

However, it is pointed out that the Germany international’s representatives want to hear if Guardiola plans to extend his own City stay beyond next summer, despite Kimmich himself being ‘so determined’ to play under the Catalan again that he is ‘willing to take a punt’.

Positionally, the report highlights that the 29-year-old wants to play more in midfield, rather than right-back. As such, given City’s hunt for a Rodrigo back-up or support-act, a move to Manchester City appears to make plenty of sense for all parties.

Elsewhere and Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to have been in contact with Bayern Munich officials over Joshua Kimmich, but the versatile defender and midfielder is claimed to favour a move to the Premier League.

Kimmich is not the only Bayern Munich player attracting admiration from Etihad Stadium transfer bosses however, with exciting Germany international Jamal Musiala seeing his valuation soar over the course of his outstanding performances at Euro 2024.

Manchester City will no doubt be in the market for a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne very soon, and some believe that those working on such a task view the former Chelsea Academy prospect as a lead candidate for such a challenge in the coming years.

However, Musiala is likely to command a staggering transfer fee should he wish to take up a fresh task away from German football, with some in football circles already quoting a fee north of £120 million.
