The star actor and director of popular comedy-drama series Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis has revealed which Premier League club he supports, speaking in a new interview.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was Lasso’s managerial opponent in an episode of the globally-renowned series released last year, with the fictional team AFC Richmond making the trip to the Etihad Stadium to face the four-time consecutive Premier League champions.

At the end of the game, as shown in the episode of Ted Lasso, the two managers have a brief conversation on the Etihad Stadium touchline to congratulate one another on a hard fought match, with Guardiola praising Lasso and offering some of his own wisdom.

Speaking in light of his appearance on Ted Lasso, the Catalan boss admitted his delight at featuring on the show, revealing that both he and his family are big fans of the series and did not have to think twice when the offer came in to appear.

“As a family we are big fans,” the 53-year-old Manchester City manager said in 2023. “My daughter Valentina and my wife enjoy the show a lot, especially the first season. When they ask me for a cameo I said ‘why not?’.

“I could meet the actors and after one of the last games at the Etihad they came and we talked again. It was nice.”

Now, speaking to journalist and social media personality Fred Bruno, the Ted Lasso star and director Jason Sudeikis admitted to supporting Premier League champions Manchester City following their work together for the show last year.

“I like it, yeah,” Sudeikis admitted when quizzed on whether he actually enjoys football as much as the show would imply. “I don’t understand everything, but after the show, I started to enjoy it even further.”

He continued, “As we recorded in Manchester, today I support Manchester City.”

“Man City” became the eighth episode of the second season of Ted Lasso, and the 18th overall episode of the series released on Apple TV+ on September 10, 2021. In the episode, AFC Richmond prepares to fend off Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

In the exchange between Guardiola and Sudeikis, or Ted Lasso in the series, the Manchester City manager shakes hands with his opponent on the touchline, to which he exclaimed, “You’re a tough guy to beat, man.

Guardiola continued, “Don’t worry about wins and losses, just help these guys be the best versions of themselves on and off the pitch. This in the end is the most important thing.”
