Former Manchester City forward Leroy Sane has revealed regret regarding a decision he made during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

The 28-year-old has featured in all three matches for Germany during their European Championship campaign to date, with the forward looking to win international silverware this summer after a trophyless campaign with Bayern Munich.

Sane signed for Bayern Munich from Manchester City in a £54.8 million transfer in 2020, returning to the German top-flight after moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2016 for £37 million from Schalke.

The forward made 135 appearances and scored 39 goals for the Sky Blues, winning a total of seven trophies, including two Premier League titles.

Sane made just two appearances during his final campaign with Manchester City, but did win the prestigious PFA Young Player of the Year award during the 2017/18 season at the age of just 22.

The German international made his Manchester City debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and scored his first goal during a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in December 2016.

Sane’s most memorable moment was his goal against Liverpool, which proved decisive during the 2018/19 campaign, as the 28-year-old netted a 72nd minute winner at the Etihad Stadium to end Liverpool’s 20-game unbeaten start to the season, and propel the Sky Blues to the Premier League trophy.

The forward even has the celebration of a Manchester City goal against AS Monaco tattooed across his back, something Sane has revealed he now regrets getting done, during an interview with Der Spiegel.

“I was young. Today I would make a different decision,” said Sane.

“I was someone who had to run into the wall at least once, even if it hurt, in order to learn from it, especially at a young age. I was surprised that this topic was so big in the media, I was still a real youngster. In Germany there were much more important players than me, and yet this tattoo was still being debated.”

Sane was directly involved in 24 goals for Bayern Munich during the most recent campaign, scoring 10 goals and registering 13 assists across three competitions.
