National League side announce surprise pre-season friendly against Manchester City

| Last Updated:

Manchester City will face National League North side Chorley FC in a pre-season friendly this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s side are scheduled to travel to the United States next month to take part in a four-match tour across America, as Manchester City prepare for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign and their latest league title defence.

The Sky Blues, who won a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title last month, will begin their Premier League campaign away to Chelsea in west London, although Manchester City’s domestic season will start with an FA Community Shield clash against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

City are due to play Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea as part of a pre-season tour of the USA across late July and early August, with friendlies taking place in North Carolina, New York, Florida and Ohio.

Both Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish are expected to be part of the travelling squad for the tour, with Manchester City’s three trophies from the 2023/24 campaign also expected to accompany the Blues in America.

As well as clinching a sixth Premier League title in seven years with a win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium in May, Manchester City also won the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during the recent campaign.

Manchester City are also set to play a friendly more locally this summer, with National League North side Chorley having announced that a squad from Manchester City will visit the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium in August.

The friendly will be played on Tuesday 6 August, with a Chorley FC club statement saying: “We are delighted to confirm that as part of our 2024/25 pre-season schedule, we will be hosting a Manchester City XI.”

“Chorley FC can confirm as part of our pre-season schedule for the 2024/25 campaign, we will take on Manchester City at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium on Tuesday, August 6.

“Ticketing information for this fixture will follow very soon, in due course.

“Please stay tuned to our website and social media channels over the coming weeks where we will be announcing more of our upcoming arrangements and fixtures for the season ahead.”

Manchester City’s academy sides regularly compete with lower league clubs, with the Elite Development Squad competing in the EFL trophy competition.
