La Liga and Premier League clubs battle over Manchester City midfielder with just seven appearances
One of Manchester City’s brightest up and coming talents is likely to be at the centre of a transfer battle during the upcoming window, according to reports.
It is likely to be a significant window for the Premier League champions as they sound out the best routes and directions for some of their key young talents, as well as some of their first-team fringe options.
One name that is facing a big decision ahead of the 2024/25 season is James McAtee, who will be looking for greater success both in terms of results as a collective, and performances individually after a challenging season with Sheffield United.
McAtee had excelled at Bramall Lane during the club’s promotion-winning season from the Championship into the Premier League, however their debut season back in the top-flight resulted in immediate relegation back into the second-tier.
Now the Manchester City academy graduate is hoping to get his own career somewhat back on track, and two new options have emerged for the youngster which could offer him the top-level football required to succeed once more.
According to the information of journalist Alan Nixon, La Liga side Girona are keen to take James McAtee on loan from Manchester City, and subsequently give him UEFA Champions League football for the upcoming season.
However, the City Football Group club are not alone in their interest, with the report also revealing that Premier League newcomers Leicester City are likely to revive their interest from last summer in the 21-year-old.
Ultimately, and perhaps unlike last summer when the player opted for a return to Sheffield United, it is stated that Manchester City will make the big decision on James McAtee and his future this summer.
McAtee already has two Premier League title wins to his name with Manchester City, having only registered seven appearances across all competitions in his two seasons as part of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.
The 2023/24 season with Sheffield United brought some level of success in front of goal, with James McAtee recorded three goals and three assists for the Blades across 31 Premier League appearances.
The club’s academy graduate will be one of several young names to have their future reviewed by transfer bosses, with Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis also set for assessments during the off-season over what could be the next best steps for their respective career pathways.
