Did Manchester City star hint at shock summer exit with cryptic eight-word social media post last week?
The connotations behind a cryptic social media post by Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson have been questioned amid recent claims that the Brazilian could quit the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The 30-year-old claimed his sixth Premier League title on Sunday afternoon, as Manchester City clinched a record-breaking fourth successive league title with a 3-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson, who has been at Manchester City since 2017, missed the victory against the Hammers and will also be unavailable for this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup Final against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, due to a facial fracture suffered against Tottenham.
The Brazilian was replaced for a fourth time this season in north London last midweek, after suffering an injury to his eye socket in a heavy collision with Cristian Romero during the second-half of the 0-2 win over Spurs.
Ederson has featured in 43 matches for the Sky Blues this season, and has made 332 appearances since his £35 million arrival from Benfica at the age of 23.
The goalkeeper, who has also won the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time in east Manchester, could however have played his final match for Manchester City.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a shock summer exit from Pep Guardiola’s side, with the potential for the goalkeeper to leave in the event of a ‘good proposal’ during the transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly already ‘interested’ in signing Ederson this summer, with the news throwing further doubt onto the connotations of a recent social media post by the Brazil international.
Following confirmation from Manchester City that the goalkeeper would miss the remainder of the season due to a facial fracture last week, Ederson took to social media to issue a cryptic eight-word message.
“No one understands, but me. see you soon,” read the caption on the Brazilian’s Instagram post.
Many had quickly linked the eight-word message with the news that the goalkeeper had been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but amid recent speculation, could Ederson have been hinting at a summer departure?
The future of fellow Manchester City shot-stopper Stefan Ortega is also in doubt ahead of next month’s transfer window, with the German having stalled recent contract extension talks with Etihad officials.
