Neither Phil Foden nor Joao Cancelo starts for Manchester City against Everton, according to reports ahead of kick-off.

Pep Guardiola appears to have stuck with similar personnel to the game against Leeds United in midweek.

Manchester City moved past Leeds United with relative ease, as a brace from Erling Haaland and a first-half effort from Rodrigo played a decisive role in the 1-3 win.

New Years Eve proposes a very different challenge however, as a struggling Everton side visit the Etihad Stadium with a point to prove following defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ahead of kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, early team news has emerged that will go a significant way in indicating who Pep Guardiola has selected for the fixture.

First of all, it is understood that Phil Foden will miss out on another Manchester City starting XI, after only featuring from the substitutes bench in the first two competitive fixtures after the World Cup.

Joao Cancelo will also be absent from the City starting XI, according to a further report, possibly suggesting that teenage talent Rico Lewis could be handed yet another start in the Premier League after impressive outings against Leeds, and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

Both Pep Guardiola and Frank Lampard are set to name their official Manchester City and Everton starting line-ups at 14:00 UK time, with kick-off at the Etihad Stadium set for 15:00.
