Manchester City manager reveals January transfer window plans
Pep Guardiola has outlined Manchester City’s intentions for the January transfer window, with the Catalan suggesting that the club won’t be active in the market.
Manchester City made six first-team signings during a busy summer of transfer business, with numerous departures and arrivals leading to a significant shake-up of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips, Stefan Ortega and Manuel Akanji all moved to the Etihad Stadium, as the latter completed a Deadline Day switch from Borussia Dortmund.
Meanwhile, Haaland and Alvarez have had particularly impressive starts to the campaign, with 31 goals and a World Cup winners medal between the pair.
Alvarez scored four goals to help Argentina win the World Cup for the first time in over three decades while Haaland has already netted on 24 occasions for the Sky Blues.
City trail league leaders Arsenal by eight points ahead of Wednesday’s match against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Despite the gap between Mikel Arteta’s side and the reigning Premier League champions, manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that Manchester City won’t be looking to strengthen their squad in the new year.
Speaking ahead of the Leeds fixture, Guardiola said: “No, I don’t think so. I think we are going to finish in this way. I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“But since I arrived back from Abu Dhabi, with the sporting director, with Txiki [Begiristain] and everyone, there wasn’t any name on the table.”
City’s Premier League rivals are expected to be active in the January transfer window with Liverpool having already agreed a deal to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV.
The Blues are however widely expected to conduct business in the summer, with speculation rife surrounding Dortmund and England teenager Jude Bellingham.
