Premier League champions Manchester City are seeking to strengthen one particular department within their set-up following a challenging season on the injury front.

Pep Guardiola’s squad has been hit hard at various points of the ongoing season with numerous injury problems affecting their most crucial players, not least Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in August and November respectively.

The Belgian playmaker suffered a reoccurrence of the hamstring problem that cut short his UEFA Champions League outing against Inter in last season’s final, subsequently undergoing surgery that would rule him out until January 2024.

As for Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker suffered a stress fracture in his foot prior to the traditionally hectic winter schedule, forcing him out of action until the turn of the year and returning alongside De Bruyne.

But Manchester City are now looking to further reduce the reliance on their medical professionals by recruiting in the physical performance area of their first-team staffing structure, according to a new report.

That is as per the information of MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, writing in the latest edition of the Man City Notebook, Manchester City are now looking to strengthen their medical department, with recruiters searching for a new physical performance lead.

Manchester City’s injury list has been further hit in the last few weeks, with Kyle Walker and John Stones having sustained respective muscular problems during the international break and their responsibilities with England.

Thankfully for Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff, Stones’ injury appears to be much less serious than first anticipated, with the central defender returning to training and the club’s matchday squad for the recent 0-0 draw against Arsenal.

Manchester City face eight matches in a 25-day period this month, with an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid accompanying their Premier League fixture schedule.
