On-loan Manchester City defender Yan Couto has pointed towards imminent conversations with his employers over his future beyond the end of this season.

The Brazilian youngster is approaching a summer market that would come off the back of an incredible season with Girona, both personally and as a collective with the City Football Group side.

Couto’s performances have not only sparked conversation amongst Manchester City fans as to whether he has earned a place in Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season, but also officially bagged himself a first senior cap with the Brazil national team.

As the season approaches the business end, and a decision will almost certainly have to be made on whether Couto will be integrated into the Manchester City first-team from next season, the player himself has been quizzed on the subject.

Speaking during an exclusive conversation with TNT Sports Brasil, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Couto explained that while he remains uncertain of his future, conversations will be had with all relevant parties in the coming weeks and months.

“So I don’t know yet. I’m talking a lot with my agents, we have to start planning our objectives, we also have to see, I’m part of (Manchester) City, I have a contract until 2026,” the Brazil international explained.

“It’s a conversation we have a lot with them, about what they expect for the future. We’ll talk and decide, nothing has been decided yet, we’ll have to see if I go to pre-season or not. If they want to be with me.”

Couto continued, “But I don’t think I can say about the future yet, it’s still early, it’s towards the end of the season, towards the European summer. And well, as I said, I’m focused on football, I leave it to my agents, I’m trying to do my bit, and I think it’s been a very good season for me and Girona.”

Manchester City have confirmed that the club and their available players will be travelling to the United States this summer for a four-game tour of the eastern coast of the country as part of their preparations for the 2024/25 season.

City will embark on matches against Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, Catalan giants FC Barcelona, the iconic Italian club of AC Milan, and Premier League rivals Chelsea prior to the start of the new English domestic season.

There remains a high chance that Yan Couto could be included within Manchester City’s group for the pre-season period, as Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff make a decision on the player’s ability to fit their intended style of play.
