John Stones has sent a heartfelt message to Manchester City’s fans for their long-standing support of his game during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international centre-back is enduring somewhat of a challenging campaign on a personal front, struggling with injury problems and subsequently consistency with Guardiola’s squad and starting line-ups.

However, having started the last few games for Manchester City across all competitions, Stones is now showing signs of returning to his top-level form showcased throughout last season through continuous game-time.

Speaking to the official Manchester City podcast this week, John Stones has sent a touching message to fans of the Etihad club, discussing the ‘love-love relationship’ he feels he has with supporters, developed since first joining the club in the summer of 2016.

“Sharing the joy of winning (trophies) with supporters is incredible,” said Stones. “I have a love-love relationship with City fans I hope. Even through difficult moments for me they have been there. I always try to give everything and I think City fans appreciate that.”

The 29-year-old continued, “Not every game is easy or goes your way but if they can see the effort and intention and you are playing with heart on sleeve they love that and that’s all I have ever tried to do.

“Making everyone proud is what we’re trying to do. We shared some incredible moments together. Without them we wouldn’t be where we are now. I feel we have clicked and I thank them for that backing.”

John Stones will now be hoping that by maintaining fitness and a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s line-ups, he can play a significant role in Manchester City’s second-half of the season with high-profile matches coming thick and fast for the club.

Manchester City host Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, before hosting Newcastle and Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals and Premier League respectively, as well as travelling to Liverpool midway through the month.
