Pep Guardiola delivers hesitant response over Kevin De Bruyne future amid Saudi Arabia links

| Last Updated:

Pep Guardiola has delivered his thoughts on Kevin De Bruyne’s future at Manchester City amid strong suggestions that he could move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The Belgian superstar has only just returned from a lengthy stretch on the sidelines after undergoing major hamstring surgery to resolve a recurring issue most recently inflamed in Manchester City’s opening match of the Premier League season against Burnley.

De Bruyne has since marked his return from the physio’s table with some stunning performances, providing key goals and assists as City find themselves on a 17-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

However, the 32-year-old has recently been linked with move to the Saudi Pro League, a destination growing in popularity for aging European superstars since the league saw an influx of cash in recent years.

While reports from the Athletic’s Sam Lee have suggested that De Bruyne and his family are keen on remaining in Manchester, City boss Pep Guardiola is unsure on what to make of the Belgian’s future at the club.

“It’s a question for him,” Guardiola said. “I would love that he stays, but I don’t know. I listen, yeah, from some links, but I don’t know if he has an offer.

“I don’t know if Saudi Arabia wants him, I don’t know. I would love for him to stay here, of course. But everyone is everyone.”

De Bruyne’s current deal at the Etihad is set to expire in the summer of 2025 but no talks to extend the contract are said to have been taken place yet.

Back on the pitch, City will have to remain focused on the more immediate future as they face a grueling schedule in the coming weeks with games against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool all to come in March.

While the Blues are currently in a tremendous position to fight on three fronts and win a second consecutive treble, the next few weeks could determine whether or not the current campaign is deemed a success, or a failure.
