“You cannot be serious here” – Matheus Nunes provides dressing room insight into Manchester City life
Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has provided a fascinating insight into what life is like being a player inside Pep Guardiola’s star-studded dressing room.
The Portugal international is only halfway into his first season as a Manchester City player, having joined the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day of the previous summer market.
While most players usually take in excess of a year to get to grips with Pep Guardiola’s way of playing and demands of his team, Nunes’ start to life at the Etihad has been largely positive, offering the midfield a different dimension to their current options.
And from the side of the 25-year-old, the player himself appears to be embracing life at the Etihad Stadium in what is the highest level of football he has endured thus far in his career following spells at Sporting and Wolves.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Sky Sports this week, the Portuguese midfielder stated that you simply “cannot be serious” at the Etihad Stadium given the light-hearted nature and constant jokes among teammates at the club.
“In this team, you cannot be serious here,” Nunes said. “If you’re a little bit shy… I mean, you start to joke around all the teammates. This is the best environment I’ve been in.”
He continued, “Even when you have sad days or when you’re a little bit frustrated, you can’t be for too long because they’re just joking around all the time and it’s actually the best to have around yourself, to surround yourself with these kind of people is the best.”
While Matheus Nunes is yet to notch his first goal for the reigning Premier League champions, his 22 appearances across all competitions has brought about five assists to his name and support from his Manchester City fans.
With the season entering a hugely chaotic period in terms of scheduling, Nunes can certainly expect to be called upon much more regularly by his manager in the coming weeks and months as Pep Guardiola rotates his options across competitions.
