Manchester City have West Ham on alert over the potential to revive interest in midfield star Lucas Paqueta in the coming weeks and months.

The London Stadium star was close to joining Manchester City in a staggering £80 million deal just last summer, before it was later revealed that the Brazilian was being investigated for allegedly breaching Football Association betting rules.

As such, City swiftly repositioned their transfer attentions and amid concern over Kevin De Bruyne’s hamstring injury at the time, moved fast to secure the signing of Matheus Nunes to add further depth to Pep Guardiola’s midfield ranks.

Despite the activity last summer in recruiting Nunes and Mateo Kovacic, City appear to remain intrigued and interested by the possibility of recruiting further in the middle of the park when the market reopens this summer, and potentially turning back to Lucas Paqueta.

That is according to the information of talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who reports that West Ham United are currently bracing themselves for fresh interest from Manchester City in their midfield sensation Lucas Paqueta.

The report states that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola remains a ‘keen admirer’ of the Brazilian international, following last summer’s ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of the player during the closing stages of the transfer window.

talkSPORT also states that Paqueta’s advisers could take ‘legal action’ against the FA over loss of earnings, and despite handing over access to his phone back in October, the 26-year-is old is still ‘in the dark’ over whether he will be charged over allegations of betting rule breaches.

Despite issues ongoing off the field, Paqueta has remained an integral part of David Moyes’ playing squad this season, further showcasing his talents and emphasising exactly why Manchester City moved so intently to secure his signature last August.

Paqueta has notched 27 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers during the ongoing campaign, and has recently returned to training following a calf injury, and will hope to add to his goalscoring tally of five goals and six assists.

Manchester City could even utilise their ongoing loan agreement with West Ham over Kalvin Phillips as a potential bargaining chip in any negotiations for Paqueta this summer, with the England international currently on a six-month deal in London.
